Fiamme’s is the new flame in town

VC STAR – It’s not hard to find an Italian restaurant near the intersection of Westlake and Thousand Oaks boulevards. But it can be tricky keeping up with the names: What used to be Alessio Ristorante in the Paseo Marketplace across from the Thousand Oaks auto mall is now Fiamme Restaurant & Bar.

Co-owner Jerry White Jr., who hails from Louisiana, called attention to the new regime with a Fat Tuesday party that was a nod to the Mardi Gras spirit of New Orleans.

The menu at Fiamme (the name means “flame”) does include baby back ribs and a few other Southern-sounding dishes, but it also runs the gamut in Italian specialties.

The new restaurant retains the good looks of Alessio, with its romantic Italian exterior and quietly luxurious interior. The former is strikingly set off by a stone entrance and the latter is alive with images from Italy’s glorious past surrounding comfortable, stylish booths and tables.
